The only thing XY really did a lot worse than DP was forcing a ton of useless characters nobody really cared about, like four (!) "rivals" who just didn't want to fucking leave you alone, or those two dex guys that had absolutely no point whatsoever.
Unfortunately I had to come to terms with the fact that after the damage BW has done, no game will be free of the character handholding bullshit anymore. With the focus of the game having shifted into the multiplayer even more than before, chances of us getting a new decent single player ala gens I-IV went further down the drain.
