I lack the leadership skills, fiery passion, and finesse that my rival has when coordinating his pokemon in battle, though this fact is praised, rather than a foil. Im essentially a borderline fanboy of the MC and my team consists of second rate mons who I pick over unique bonds rather than competitive prowess. Coming in first place is never my intention, and I'd rather enjoy the experience along side my team, whether its at the top or on the sidelines.
By the end of the series, I manage to scrounge up a solid team of mons that manage to take me to the Pokemon League, but having experience such a journey was always the true goal.
