Clearly the target audience don't care and I don't think the people that would rally against a cartoon deer plays videogames. Imo the people that complain about it don't by themselves represent a salesdip but TPCi also cares about public perception so maybe there is something to it including it in the trio of poster boys won't be the best option, purely from a marketing perspective. But as we all know by now, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
