>>43005356It's weird. I'm not going to praise them highly as they both do have flaws, though they are fun enough to play. SM had a legitimately ok story. USUM I think has a worse story (cutting some Lusamine/Lillie stuff and changing motivations), but better gameplay (more sidequests, more explorable areas, more pokemon options to catch in game, Hau feels better written, a cool boss a la necrozma, and better postgame).
If you haven't played SM and don't care about the story, play USUM instead. I will say that this still comes with a warning; there are still too many cutscenes and too much handholding early on and despite being an enhanced version, there are STILL telltale signs of cut areas. If you want to experience the better story, go with SM, but either borrow it from a friend or get it cheap, because it is simply ok gameplay-wise and I wouldn't pay full price for it when USUM exist. If you have already played SM and are thinking about checking out USUM, I would borrow it or get it used, because even with the things I mentioned, I still wouldn't say they changed enough to justify paying full price for mostly the same game.
But that's just like, my opinion dude.
