I'd like to be a side character. A strong, focused trainer that just can't make his big break. I'd fight some Elite Fours or Gym Leaders, who'd all tell me that I'm good, but I can get better. Coming from Johto, I'd be obsessed with finding and befriending Lugia.
Cyndaquil would be my starter, eventually evolving into Typhlosion, my ace. I'd travel through several regions, picking up mons for my team as I go: Raichu, as a Pikachu I found in Kanto, Empoleon and Garchomp, heavy-hitters from Sinnoh, Decidueye, a surprise encounter in Alola, and finally my Metagross, whose Mega Stone would be a gift from someone.
Nidoking, Umbreon, Sirfetch'd, Braviary and Tauros have helped through several have battles and are my B-listers. While Cubone (from Alola), Snubbull, Sealeo, Tyrunt, Rockruff and Steenee are all in training.
Victini is... an odd case. I'd never actually catch it. Instead, I would've befriended it in Unova, and it would choose to help me in battles on a whim. Perhaps it wants me to meet Lugia someday for some reason?
