I used a Meowth in FireRed. Never battled with it, though, just left it in my team and hoped it would have a berry after a battle.
Here's the Gen 3 set I used, moves for better sets may have been added over time though

>Flash
>Faint Attack
You could also fit Hypnosis in somewhere if you have access to the daycare.
I would NOT recommend making it a dedicated team member for battle though, reason being there's better normal types that you could use and it loses Pickup when it evolves.
