In the past, every third version had given us the ability to catch both version mascots from the main gen games
Ho-oh and Lugia in Crystal
Kyogre and Groudon in Marine and Terra Cave in Emerald
Dialga and Palkia on Spear Pillar in Platinum
Reshiram or Zekrom from N in BW2
XY never got a third version or sequel, so they never had the ability to get caught again
and since Zygarde is getting his attention in Alola, I'm thinking we'll get the chance to catch Xerneas and Yveltal in Alola, which will more than likely tie into a larger story with Zygarde
