The only crime that Gen 6 created was the existence of Megas. They realized that they made a terrible mistake, and have entered this vicious cycle of backpedaling until they find a formula to teach old mons new tricks when it was never necessary in the first place. Some shitty executive got it into the company's heads that the old formula isn't good enough anymore so it needs to be completely revamped. Add that belief with the existence of Pokemon GO, and one can say that the franchise is going through a major identity crisis.
