>>58303892>>58310193>One 60+ hours playthrough of a 50-chapter FE hack laterI shat on the story for Parts 1/2, but then it improved in Part 3 (out of 5). It follows a group of humans who get turned into Pokémon and sent to the world of Part 1 but separated from each other, so you follow 3 PoVs as they adapt to their alien situation.
One becomes a Charizard and her segment is very "PMD-like" since it focuses on natives helping her adapt to her new body and overcome baggage from her human life. Another is a Delphox trying to hide his human identity while travelling with Pokémon in a society who hates humans and hunts them. These segments work because they are more detached from the central story.
This part is where the story’s strongest point starts to shine: the supporting cast is solid.
Everyone (except for two missable recruits) gets screentime and development with some of them even having character arcs. The author put care into ensuring that even less important characters get to participate in plot conversations, and the banter between them is mostly enjoyable.
This is also where I should mention something about this hack: it has a LOT of talking. Cutscenes are extensive and every map has exclusive Talk command conversations. It will feel like a Visual Novel at times.
I don’t mind long conversations and to me most of them contributed to forwarding the plot or developing characters rather than pointless “yapping”, but I know this is a dealbreaker for many.
The writing has some good stuff going for it, but all this good stuff is surrounding a terrible core that taints everything.
By core I mean the Samurott. Everything about this fucking character sucks, but the ENTIRE plot gravitates around him and his Super Special Sword™. He’s not even part of your army after Part 1, but characters still wank and talk about him constantly.
I get what the author was going for with him, but the worst parts of the story are exactly the baggage he carries.
