This is not an endorsement of any of the unconfirmed designs. Designs were chosen for ability to not look out of place in the line up, mostly art style.
So, as you might be able to tell, on a flamboyancy scale our gym leaders lie somewhere in the gen 2-4 range (all very similar). That's pretty middle of the pack and I think that we excelled at nailing a gym leader style in that regard.
