I believe that there is a Regigigas for each continent in the Pokemon world, and three Regi's alongside him.
The Regi's in Hoenn can't have been the same as the ones in Unova, because Brendan/May HAD to have caught them so that Dawn/Lucas could awake the Regigigas in Sinnoh, which again, wouldn't make any sense if there was less than one.
Why would the Regis just all move across the oceans and lay dormant inside an abandoned mineshaft?
Only explanation is that there are approximately 7 Regigias's spread across the world, with Regi's close by.
However, the Lake Trio are unique. They protect the lakes of Sinnoh. In Unova, they weren't protecting anything, they were just sort of THERE. No idea why they had flown to Unova, but their presence there, assuming I am right in that they are unique, suggests that those Lake Pixies are three legends that Dawn/Lucas DIDN'T catch/own.
As for Serena/Calem, I'd rather wait until the definitive version (Z) is released, to think about what they achieved in the Pokémon world.
