I don't really prefer any gen design wise over any other, but I can give my takes on them.
>Gen 1
I like this gen a lot because a lot of the designs look like animals that could exist in real life, but aren't just rips of real life animals. Some examples are Nidoking, Lapras, and Rhydon. However, the gen did have some really bad Pokemon, Mr. Mime and Jynx are two of my absolute least favorites. Also, gen 1 had great starters.
>Gen 2
They only added 100 Pokemon this generation, and most of them look pretty great. Heracross, Sneasal, and Ampharos are all pretty cool. The cross gen evos were great also.
>Gen 3
If I had to choose a favorite gen it would probably be this one. It has a ton of my favorite Pokemon in it, such as Seviper, Aggron, Salamence, Flygon, and my personal favorite Pokemon Sableye. Also Rayquaza and Deoxys are two of my favorite Legendaries.
>Gen 4
Gen 4 was the peak for Legendaries in my opinion. The cross gen evos were also pretty great for the most part. Aside from that though, the only gen 4 Pokemon I really like are Luxray, Garchomp, Gastrodon, and Torterra. The rest are just sort of there.
>Gen 5
This gen had the best bug types. Volcarona, Gavantula, Escavalier, Scolipede and Genesect are all awesome. Gen 5 also has my favorite birdmon in Braviary. This gen does have some the worst Pokemon in the franchise though, like Garbodor and my least favorite Pokemon Watchog. Still, I think the good outweighs the bad.
>Gen 6
Extremely underrated gen design-wise. Trevenant, Malamar, and Noivern are all great.
>Gen 7
Way too much waifu and fur bait, but apart from that it's pretty decent. It gave me my favorite bug type in Golisopod, my favorite grass type in Lurantis, and my favorite ice type in Alolan Ninetails. However, Zeraora is the precise moment in which legendaries stopped being cool to me. Not a huge fan of the Tapus either. As for the UB's, the only ones I really like are Xurxitree and Celesteela.
