OP's Pic, Temtem, Nexomon, whatever. They all fail because they look like fakemon, I instantly perceive them as off-brand Pokémon. They try the colorful cute thing and it's too obvious.
They first need a unique artstyle and preferably try another kind of creature catching that wouldn't be possible in Pokémon.
SMT has demons, Digimon has tons of weapons and cyborg shit, Yugioh has everything but mostly dragons and futuristic knights...
What about a Mecha collecting game? Imagine if Horizon Zero Dawn had been about you traveling the open world island catching those amazing robot designs for rpg battles with a team of 3 (excess would get stored).
Or an alien catching game.
