It's not iconic nor particularly memorable, and I doubt much people outside of the UK even know about it.Because it looks like a radio tower and is in the UK where the game's region is based on. It also looks cool so who cares if there are little kids in Mexico or wherever that don't know about it, if something looks awesome and distinctive you're going to look and say "Wow."
Also if the region is based on Britain then there will be more than one town representing England and there will be more than one town for Wales and Scotland too. As to why they didn't choose the London Eye think about it... That is the wrong shape to transmit a lightning bolt into the upper atmosphere because it is circular, and the Elizabeth Tower (which is what I think you meant when you mentioned big ben) is made of stone.
