There's enough /tr/ainers and pre-XY /vp/oreon remaining who remember the tans and Tentaquil. But tans, as a representative allegory of the board, are only useful to comment on "historic events" within said board. Put more simply: the only time you'd need them is when you'd want to make comics of what's been happening on the board lately. And whereas boards like /v/ or /co/ always have some kind of drama going on, we're relatively quiet. Not to mention our shortage of talented drawfags who could make said comics. And there's always the potential problem of people wanting to develop the tans into actual characters with storylines/continuity/character development which, again, goes completely against the definition of a tan, who're supposed to express the board atmosphere and nothing more (and the threads themselves would be at risk of becoming an offtopic circlejerk in addition to metathreads).
Regarding Tentaquil, while a cherished piece of OC, it at best has the status of a meme on this board, and it is the nature of memes to live fast and die hard. I'd recommend you search the archive for Dave, Knight of /vp/, and Scruwba, to see similar "mascots" whose presence and longevity turned out even lesser than Tentaquil's.
tl;dr: /vp/ has little to no board culture in which these characters could be useful, and attempting to force the issue in the current climate of an anon majority who don't know the board's history could go all kinds of wrong.
