Sometimes you get punished too much because you had to switch something in at the wrong time. Sometimes they just press a button to double a mon's HP to survive some quad weak move and demolishes one of your cores, invalidating both game knowledge and prediction because suddenly there are possibilities that turn checks and counters to ash. I'm not going to talk about breaking choice locks but i'll ask: what if those 3 issues are present at the same turn?
Suddenly it becomes a guessing game where the defending side has no correct answers, not even 50/50s anymore.
But on your context it is interesting, because it's not a optimal usage of the mechanic. It's literally patching a mon, like some mega evos did.
