Nintendo were very reticent to take the Famicom (NES) to the west because of the crash, it was only when they saw the signs of recovery they decided to move in and to distinguish themselves, started slapping the quality seal on their games, to let consumers know the games were largely free of game-breaking bugs or major crashing issues. It was as much to protect their brand and their games they did it, but it also helped them by building trust between them and their customers, they knew they were getting a game that worked.
