One day I was fucking around with my action replay, and wanted to see if I could get a full shiny team. I set it to "all shinies"
Then I started a new file, (this was in Diamond) and made my way to the lake to get my starter. Lo and behold, it was a shiny piplup.
Then my game crashed after saving, I don't know why.
So I restarted the game, re-enabled my cheat, and went into a patch of grass. The pokemon I encountered wasn't shiny.
So I was stuck in the situation where I didn't know if the cheat had worked or not. I may have just gotten my first shiny starter totally legitimately thanks to a faulty cheat. Or maybe it only bugged out the second time.
What hurts the most is that I will never know if it was legit.
