They assume that these side-projects are taking away resources from Pokémon and that's why the games have been decaying in quality, even though NONE of the Gear Project games feature any key members of the Pokémon staff and are produced by small teams in a small period with a small budget.
Game Freak has stated they wanted to prioritize these original games over Pokémon moving forwards, but that's really not happening any time soon as Pokémon games keep being pumped out every year (last Gear Project was LTH in 2019)
