When I first saw them I had a feeling they were real. They were just too clever and creative to be made by fans. Most of the art I saw predicted Popplio to become a clown or strongman, Rowlet to become a gentleman or bigger owl, and Litten to stay on all fours. Very predictable, but Game Freak likes to challenge us and surprise us.
When I learned that Popplio learns Disarming Voice, I was sure they were real. People kept arguing that it didn't mean anything. "Chespin learns Rollout but it's not rock type so it doesn't mean anything" is what they would say. I remember constantly posting that Disarming Voice was a huge indicator of what's to come, that it's not like other early moves like Rollout or Bite because physiology determines the ability to use those moves (not typing), that Disarming Voice fit in with the siren/mermaid theme.
I remember people saying Primarina's hair was too un-Pokemon-like, even though we have Pokemon like Mega Ampharos and Zoroark.
I remember people saying it didn't make sense for Popplio to evolve into a mermaid and not a clown. The circus theme was only ever fanmade head canon. I would argue that a sea lion was a great animal to base a mermaid design on because its natural physiology already resembled a mermaid's. Instead I'd get called furry or gay. One anon even accused me of trying to "stifle" criticism toward Primarina.
These are the kind of people with a sense of entitlement, believing they have a right to claim what is wrong and what is right for Game Freak to decide and do.
That's what happens when you don't allow yourself to be open-minded. You get BTFO.
I'm just happy they're real. All three look fantastic. I love them.
