>>20042837>>20042683These. Gen 3 had some amazing and diverse soundtracks, and somehow they sounded cohesive.
>>20042853One or two good tracks doesn't make up for the butchering of the Plasma Grunt and Ghetsis battle themes.
HGSS had the worst, easily. Every track sounded like an amateur remix with long intros that sounded like they only expected you to hear common tracks rarely. I'm fine with tense buildup or grand sweeping starts before the melodies kick in for things like gym leaders, bosses, and climactic areas like N's Castle, but I hear the wild battle theme literally thousands of times in one playthrough. Cut the fucking intro off and let it sound tense on its own. The wild pokemon battle theme in Johto takes 15 seconds to get to the main melody. The Kanto wild battle theme takes 14 seconds, but even then it keeps a similar level of intensity, which is to say none at all.
And then there's the worst offender for a different reason. The Team Rocket battle theme.

You're getting into it. And then ~:50 happens. Oh, thanks. You deflated the intensity with one fucking note. GREAT JOB.
