>>56764961Every human and many pokemon had anger issues in Gen 1, in Gen 2 and Gen 3 they were still angry but had vertical eyes instead. That's why the designs felt badass as first impression. Not to add the abundance of random spikes too, or fangs on some pokemon that were retconned later such as Lapras. Sugimori's chunky and sharp human designs also emitted this impression of costant anger and menace, as soon as they switched to more appealing and common modern manga and anime artstyle they automatically lost the unnecessary edgy aura.
