Assist Whirlwind is not only for recovery but for picking out special attackers and setting up on them, having one substitute allows you to OHKO physical attackers. Special Walls are threats, but thats what you have impostor ditto for, which you can use to pick off the things you don't like as well as set up stealth rock since most teams run it. All the switcherooo and tricks also allow you to cripple things such as walls.
