As a good example, look at any photos from Super Smash Bros Brawl, specifically this pic (sorry for another Kid Icarus thing.. been on an Uprising stint lately..)
It looks like shit. Pixelated like fuck, to the point where the model is even weird.
It does not look nearly that bad in game, though. In fact, Brawl's a relatively nice looking game.
3DS games in particular have this problem.. They just don't translate well out of their system. I promise you, the actual game will look way less pixelated. Almost every 3DS game's been like that.
