As far as I can remember my parents were moderately well off, enough to afford an apartment by the sea. My parents have splashed out in the past to be buy me certain things if they're important despite not being that well off since I'm an only child, and considering a pokemon technically acts as a bodyguard, a somewhat expensive pokemon might not be too much of a stretch. Considering I've lived by and loved the ocean since I was little I'd probably have a water type or something that lives in the sea that could play with me and keep me safe in the water. We live in a small flat, so nothing so bulky that it would mess stuff up. Would also have to take into account the fact that my asthma/health was awful back then, so I'd possibly have to avoid anything with long fur that might shed or I might be allergic to. Also loved dragons as a kid, so I'm gonna go with dratini. If that's too much of a stretch, then perhaps finneon or horsea, and if I wasn't allergic to its fur, eevee.
