This episode feels so weird. Don't get me wrong, I loved Iris returning and Ash's win, but man. The lack of build up outside of OP hype, the absolute lack of characterization of Haxorus, Iris' journey to championship being a Power Point ,etc. I don't know if it's fanservice for people liking game Iris or for people that love Aoi Yuuki, because she feels like a totally different character.
Also, it really makes you feel like Ash gets in touch with all his friends all the time off-screen.

Just replace exploration/rescue teams with privateers and you're done. A small port-side town that acts as the hub, sailing to island dungeons, ship raids/combat that act as monster houses. Obligatory Chatot.
I can imagine random special events while sailing too:

>Getting attacked by a Perrserker and Galarian Meowth manned Viking longship
>Dynamaxed boss Pokemon, like a kraken sized Tentacruel or Gyrados
I'm bad at conceptualizing things but you get the idea

I was thinking of creating a new thread but I'll just hijack this one instead. Are long routes necessarily good? I don't want a short Pokémon game but constantly traveling to the Pokémon centre and back to battle every trainer is something I find annoying.

If you were to add a type to a game that was purely centered around balancing the game and nothing else, what weaknesses/resistances/effectiveness would it have?
I was thinking about adding a new type that was weak against Bug and Ice but super effective against Water, Fairy, and Steel. I don't think it'd make much sense for any theoretical type to do this (for instance, Sound, Light, and Cosmic don't make much sense to have these weaknesses and effectiveness) but I want to do something like this regardless for balancing purposes.

Yeah it really is a shame. I wish someone could find away to reverse engineer the wi-fi signal that game freak used to distributed the Pokémon so that everyone could get them. Even then one has to wonder what they gain by making theses pokemon event exclusive.
