RB will always be the definitive kanto experience. i'm not saying this as someone who grew up with them, the first game I ever finished was White. RB are special because of how janky and unpolished it is.
and honestly, FRLG aren't even worth playing as "updated" experiences. gen 3 is as outdated as gen 1 by this point.
