>>47768040Digimon World 2003 is more similar to your typical jrpg since you have the basic attack and spells that you unlock as you level, equipment, and I'm not sure how much elemental advantage mattered but it exists, usual stuff of using water against fire but it's ok if you don't (I think the multiplier isn't that big)
But I still consider it the definite Pokémon experience. You get to travel the digital world kicking ass, exploring new places (spritework looks awesome) and defeating hard bosses out to kill you and gym leaders in every town.
And your creatures will unlock different Evolutions as you play. No you can't catch the enemies. But some bosses will give you their evolution line when defeated so you can choose to raise them from 0 if you want said boss' ultimate form. For example if you didn't pick Agumon as your starter (you choose a team of 3 starters instead of just 1), you can defeat pic related to unlock him.
That pic is just a swamp, but the cities and dungeons look incredible. It's pretty much a more mature Pokémon without going into full SMT territory - combat system is basic jrpg though but I didn't find myself caring about that, I wanted to progress the story and evolve my critters.
You also have an Ultimate meter that fills when getting hit or attacking and might bail you out at times, and can combine certain Digimon for in-game fusion attacks. It's neat. OST is incredible too.
