Microsoft has lost billions and billions on its games division and Sony had to sell off most of its assets and fire thousands of employees just to stay afloat. They lose so much money on every console it's not even funny.
All consoles are sold at a loss, but Nintendo uses cheaper hardware and makes way more money on first party games, so it requires significantly less software sales per console to make returns. It's not even a matter of forecasting doom too early. The Wii U having a slow start is not even in the realm of the company being in trouble. The 3DS was the exact same goddamn way and a few price drops and games later it's Iwata's golden egg.
And it makes me sick that any of you want them to go third party. Being first party gives them complete creative control of their properties. You really want them to answer to blind corporate fuckheads like MS or Sony and turn their games into brown and bloom bloody screen QTE press X to jason 'cinematic experience' bullshit? It makes me fucking nauseous.
Nintendo is not going anywhere, and Pokemon is not going anywhere, nor do they need to.
