My first was Crystal.
I don't really have a select favorite generation. My favorite single Pokemon game is BW2, but I really don't like BW1 at all besides some of the new Pokemon. Honestly, I'd probably say Gen VI, just for having the most polished core gameplay and mechanics, even though the individual games in it are pretty lackluster when it comes to the main adventure and postgame. Flipside, I like the adventure and side content in every game in Gen IV, but the games don't feel that great to play, between DPPt all being pretty slow and not really liking the menus in HGSS, especially the bag. I don't like going back to Gen I or Gen III as well. Gen I is really unpolished and just dated. Gen III has an awful aesthetic in half its games, battles are about as slow as Gen IV, and it's in this awkward middle stage when it comes to its battle mechanics. Gen II I can still easily go back to whenever, it feels good to play for the system, the aesthetic of the art direction is my favorite and the game itself has a wonderful color scheme, and the mechanics aren't either totally broken or in a weird growing pains stage.
So VI or II, probably.
