It's fucking wild that Gen 7 and 8 both tried to do the "oh no I'm not as good as the MC, how do I cope" and have been inferior to BW's take on it every time. Cheren going from being a hyper compfag to a gym leader and Bianca going from a shitty trainer to an excellent Prof. Assistant runs laps around Hau's "I'm smiling but I'm sad inside:(" and Hop getting all the way to the end of the Pokemon league before going "AIIEEE I KNEEL" and coming up with wanting to be a professor out of the blue. Sonia getting the professor position off of pure nepotism is also a joke.
