i think all of gen 5 bug types are pretty great from a design perspective, we got the cute bugs like sewaddle, swadloon, joltik, galvantula, shelmet, venipede, and dwebble, but we also got lots of cool bugs like Scolipede, Accelegor, Galvantula (who is both cute AND cool), Escalvilier, and Volcarona. The only bugs I don't really care much for are Leavanny and Crustle, but even those are still decent. So, I would say that gen 5 has the best overall Bug-type designs.

Steel: Gen 3 (all the steel types in gen 3 are pretty epic.)
