Humans in the Pokemon world actually seem more crazy/less intelligent than humans in ours, actually... but that is because the games are made to have the widest appeal possible.
You assume that Pokemon have reason to become a dominant species. You underestimate the power of numbers, while there are more Pokemon in total, they tend to small groups, whereas humans join up. Also, the Pokeball is a thing... Pokemon don't need to think exactly like humans or have the same ambitions, that doesn't make them stupid.
If the default assumption was the one you seem to think it was, then this conversation probably wouldn't even be happening.
