People might dislike the old formula, but so far it still works, pokemon company is rich and popular with this formula, why change it? Why take the risk? Why remove Ash and especially, their ace mascot Pikachu? People grow with this two, and loyal fans want to continue watching this two. Same reason why other older series never "changed" the formula or their characters. Because it still works.
