>>50018628Digital actually makes a lot of sense too. The more I think about it, the more it feels like it could happen. There's really only one line in existence that could be retyped (the Porygons), but beyond that it's a wide open field. Which makes it feel a bit like how Steel and Dark did in generation 2. And this would definitely open up the door to designs that we don't currently have, which would be Pokemon themed around cyberspace, information, tech, etc. And while we do have mechanical Pokemon (Magearna, Klink line, maybe Metagross line?) I don't think that they necessarily fit the theme of Digital/Cyber, which would legitimately be more of a futuristic/data type than it would be "machines."
12-year-old me wanted this type really bad. Then I got older and realized it was stupid. But now I'm coming back around to thinking it's actually pretty clever. It gets around the problem having to retype old Pokemon or shake up the status quo like fairy did. It would definitely be more like how they introduced steel and dark where it really did feel like they were adding something new to the game rather than just changing the rules, which I think subconsciously is what people's problem with fairy really is about.
