While there are some pokemon that are good in doubles but shit in singles, the reverse is also true. You'll never see passive, more defensive pokemon like Quagsire, Skarmory or Chansey in VGC. And while I'm not sure how good Mega Pinsir is offhand in doubles, it seems to have very, very low usage for something that's so strong on singles.
And on the other hand, there are pokemon that are absolute shit in both formats.
