I'd say the first season at least did a good job of capturing the scummy, hostile and/or shitty attitude of some of its people, like charmander's trainer, the rich students, the hag in the tentacruel episode, the city jigglypuff put to sleep or the one with the scyther-electabuzz rivalry. And the fucking gym leaders ranging from bitchy and lazy (misty's sisters), to condescending asshole (surge), uninterested and obstructive (erika) to straight up psychopathic (sabrina). Even fucking Jenny is more often than not a bitch.
