They were never going to canonise a human partner for Ash, given the nature of the anime (ie, aimed at a demographic that includes humans undergoing puberty), piss off too many people who may have grown up with series A/B/C but Series D girl ended up with him. EVERYONE loved M05 though and the core love story between Ash and Latias. What better way to close Ash's story by revisiting the best love story the series has ever told?
