What I do "understand" is that it's easy to put out a lazy game for a big profit and then purposely take pokemon away instead of seriously analyzing the competitive meta and trying to make it viable. It was easier to just make it impossible to use the most commonly used (non-Gen1) competitive mons and force everyone to battle with mons we haven't even seen or used yet.
The saddest part of all is that nothing will change despite this huge backlash, or that a national dex update won't be planned.
