to be fair, by their nature pokemon games (fan or otherwise) often fall apart when you think too hard about all the options they'd open up
I complain about games forgetting you have a roster of superpowered creatures at your command while your opponents are using theirs for plot stuff but from a writing or programming standpoint it would be tricky to account for all those variables
