I've figured out a way around one of the major setbacks that screwed me over last time. You see, it's impossible to give an NPC's pokemon EVs of any sort. This means that by level 40 or 50, a player's Serperior will be stronger, tougher and faster than an equally leveled NPC's Serperior. I started throwing higher-level pokemon at the player to try and balance the playing field, but the increased XP gain just made the player's pokemon level up faster, requiring an even higher level of NPC 'mons to compensate. This "XP Inflation" spiraled out of control.
This might sound controversial and unpopular, but I've just figured out how to prevent the player from gaining EVs. How would this sit with you guys? Would you be willing to play a Pokémon game with no Effort Value gain in exchange for a more balanced, challenging experience?
