They are your stereotypical right hand kingly knights who will sacrifice themselves for their trainer/partner. It has always been that way.
The fact that the pokemon itself is the Embrace Pokemon and its prior evolutions all detail how its all about feelings and emotions, is what makes it push that more I suppose "Waifu" feeling for people. Its not a Waifu its a Pokemon.
