>>44935124>open world is a memeIf 15 years is anything to go by it shows that it's a successful meme if anything. I was just illustrating that while an open world is totally doable with todays technology it is not in gamefreaks interest (anymore) to live up to 90's kids future fantasies. Modern kids play on smartphones, at least if we are to believe GF's marketing team.
So why aren't pokemon targeting adults as well as children? Thing is they are, it's that the grownups buy it anyway. The demand for quality is only a fraction that of the demand for something mediocre. Targeting core gamers would alienate your casual audience, their bread and butter. Is it possible to make a game that appeals to both casuals and hardcores alike, a game that don't alienate any fans? Possibly, but I admit I don't know how to make such a game and I believe neither does GF. Little Town Hero wasn't the bang people expected by their A-team. You also need something to sell your costumers in the future, the reason they take mechanics out of prior generations to sell you a decade down the line.
Why is pokemon in the state it is? Because you'll buy it anyway. No not you the intelectual, you're a rare breed. Not worth the investment, and pokemon is nothing but an investment. You have grown up and will be replaced by new minors and ignorants. Getting a minority hooked on the franchise as adults wasn't part of the plan but they roll with it because big dollars, they don't have to appeal to this minor group with quality because they buy anything out of brand loyalty. You can transfer your pokemon from previous generations so that you will accumulate sunk cost mentality over time. Don't want your precious bros stuck in an older game, pay for this completely redundant service to move over kilobytes of data in 2020 over the coud. Oh and also pay for Nintendos shitty online that's straight out of 2003.
But the monster designs are cute I guess and better at that than any other monster teambuilder.
