Requesting Calem using a brass brush and WD-40, cleaning off the cosmoline of a Lairon he's had in a PC Box for a long while, the Lairon looking tired, yawning, sitting on a tarp.
Cosmoline is a wax-like rust-preventative that you'd cake a metal object with, before long time storage (often associated with really old military rifles), over time, it'll harden and turn to a though yellow/brown crust, it's a pain to remove, and it'll interfere with mechanical functions, but it prevents a metal object to be exposed to rust when stored for very long periods of times, several decades, probably more.
Pic related, the yellow gunk on the metal parts is old hardened cosmoline.
