It's not a problem for Chicken-chan, after all. The skintone issue could've easily been dealt with by having the Mom matching the skintone you choose, or just limiting customization to clothing altogether.
The backlash from removing this feature was so strong that GF addressed it in an interview and brought it back in the following games.
