The thing is with the direction SM took it's very hard to accurately speculate about the future since we have nothing to reference for this adventure.
Every other region and side quest Ash has had a goal with an eventual deadline for that.

SM is literally him on vacation.
So, unless they do a "Summer Vacation" arc where everyone goes their seperate ways for the summer and Ash goes around competing in more trials with Lillie tagging along because she doesn't have anything to do, it's hard to guess the reasoning behind Ash going out to fight more trials.
The only reason he decided to fight Hala was because he remembered the trial and was like, "Hey, lets go get a new Z-Crystal!"
