We should judge each generation based on the engine, graphics, region and the potential each one has when it comes to hackroms and shit. Instead of judging them based on the actual shitty games that GameFreak released officially, which are incompetently designed and lock features and pokemon behind gimmicky trading-with-a-friend shit.
There is no point in judging the games like that when we have emulation and their future lies in emulation. There is no point in criticising Emerald's exploration by saying that secret bases are a shitty reward for exploration, when you can easily modify the rom so that there are actually cool items hidden in those places.
This community is more focusing on hating GameFreak for their blunders than improving the games themselves. Who cares if GSC is shit in hindsight? Who cares if Game Freak doesn't deserve any credit for that shitshow? It's still a really good engine that can make great games in the hands of the right romhack devs.
