Clemont was unsure about himself around the time before the BroBowl, feeling like Ash overshadowed him and he wouldn't be able to give him the gym battle he feels Ash deserves. In their gym battle, Ash even helped Clemont regain his all his passion for battling he had in the past.
Also Bonnie wouldn't like a sad face.
Pikachu and Greninja (along with any of his Pokemon in general really) would view it with utter disgust, seeing he's lost sight of what is important and they have lost the Ash they loved and cared so much for.
