Just a random reply here:
Earlier I was watching a video on RNG manipulation and it segued into arbitrary code execution and stuff for speedruns. Stuff about MissingNo and the like, and how you can essentially rewrite the code to your benefit, and it reminded me of this weird time when I was a kid.
I remember playing Pokemon Red, and I would always name my rival GARY, because I was 10-11 and watched the cartoon. But all of a sudden, after fucking around with something or another near the Nugget Bridge. When my rival came down to fight me, the game was calling him ZARY.
I pointed this out the group of us playing Pokemon, and nobody believed me that the name just changed all of a sudden, and thought that I would, for whatever reason, name my rival ZARY and then spend several hours playing it.
Seeing how broken the older games truly are, makes me wonder just what exactly I stumbled on back then.
