>>31844121it feels empty even before the league, the problem with gen6/7 is more than just the lack of postgame (though more of those kinds of minigames and facilities are always welcome)
NPCs are still just robotic two-line protip dispensers that never move or really recognize anything you do or have
cities have no character or life within them, no pedestrians, cars or anything, they're just a collection of empty huts
there are barely even any pokemon in the environment of the fucking pokemon game; no followers, fully modeled wild encounters, nothing you can even really interact with, all there are are a few stationary ones here and there that their trainers do fuck all with
the decisions I make have absolutely no noticeable impact on the world, things don't change, people don't change, you're just an observer and nothing more
people ITT say alola was cool to explore but it still felt just as dull, empty and nonsensical as just about every region before it, there's no real worldbuilding going on to make it feel actually real, human society is supposed to be more advanced in the pokemon world but you'd never believe it when major cities are connected by crude shittily maintained dirt roads, and when you walk off the beaten path what are you really rewarded with? some barely interactive prefab building that serves no real purpose?
overall I guess the biggest problem is that GF made a 3D game using the same old 2D formula, they just updated the graphics but did few of the other things 3D games typically do to make the 3D actually worth it, many of the ways things currently are were great for a shit i8080 handheld with 8K of RAM but that was years ago and they're still doing effectively the same thing
it really triggers me how much unrealized potential the 3D era has, I wish GF would really start embracing the roleplaying part of the games and let me start really roleplaying
